Join us on our Boston TV and Movie Sites Tour for a wonderful sightseeing experience in Boston's Beacon Hill! We like to call Beacon Hill the Movie mile because over 30 movies and TV shows have been filmed here and is the most filmed part of Boston. Beacon Hill can be found just north of the famous Boston Common and Public Gardens and is known for its beautiful residential neighborhoods filled with brick federal style homes, Victorian and Greek Revival architecture, and plenty of decretive artwork to catch your eye.
If architecture is not your thing you can spend your day, night, and probably the day after visiting more than 40 antique stores found on Beacon Hills famous Charles Street which is nicknamed “Antique Row”. After you have had your fill of antique dolls and apothecaries the Massachusetts State House is one of the jewels in all of Boston. The State house overlooks Louisburg Square, Boston Common, and was the home of Louisa May Alcott. Alcott is an American Novelist most famous for her novel Little Women.
Also part of Beacon Hill is the Boston Common, America's oldest public park and once used for other interesting activities like militia training. Other areas of interest include, the Nichols House Museum, the Park Street Church and The Nichols House Museum which illustrates the day to day life of a typical family of Beacon Hill at the turn of the century.
Beacon Hill contains the most photographed street in America, Acorn Street, which runs from Willow Street to West Cedar street. Acorn street is only one block long and is known for its cobble-stone and the Bull & Finch Pub. When the producers got the idea for a show set in a friendly neighborhood bar they went to the Bull and Finch Pub which ended up being the inspiration for the hit Television show Cheers.
Other TV and Movies filming locations in the Beacon Hill area include Ally McBeals Law Firm, Cage Fish & Associates. The movies Civil Action and With Honors were both filmed in the Boston Athenaeum, one of the oldest independent libraries in the United States. The Departed filmed Exterior shots of Matt Damon’s apartment and Malice, starring Nichole Kidman, Alec Baldwin, and Bill Pullman was also filmed in Beacon Hill.
