This Week’s TV Recap: “Dirty Laundry”
Hey all! We don’t know about you, but we’re super excited about the kick-off of the fall TV season. There are lots of great new shows as well as the classic returners, so we’ll be rehashing the latest and greatest from shows filmed right here in New York. Let’s start off with a recap and discussion of this season’s first episode of Boardwalk Empire.
Chalky White’s liquor operation was raided by the KKK. Chalky ends up killing one of them and Nucky orders Eli to have him arrested for his protection. Nucky, as usual, plays for both teams as he assures the whites that he will bring the blacks to justice and vice versa.
The Commodore appears alive and well as he grooms his biological son, Jimmy, to take Atlantic City from under Nucky Thompson’s reign. It’s interesting to see the influence The Commodore has over Jimmy, considering he wasn’t there for him as a father for most of his life. Their goal to de-throne Nucky Thompson, the actual father-figure in Jimmy’s life, will not be as easy as it looks. Sheriff Eli, Nucky’s brother is aligning himself with The Commodore and Jimmy. I can’t wait to see how Nucky will handle betrayal from both Jimmy and Eli.
Jimmy is now married to Angela, who’s fighting for control with Jimmy’s mom, Gillian. She proceeds to up the creep factor by saying that she used to “kiss his little winkie” when she changed his diaper as a baby. Between that, and how Gillian and Jimmy kiss on the lips, there exists a very inappropriate and overly sexualized dynamic between them.
Richard Harrow – OK, was he gluing family pictures into a Bible? Weird… but I’m still a huge fan of his! He doesn’t say much but he has a very strong presence.
Margaret Schroeder is still waiting for Nucky to come home. What else is new? Nucky got arrested for election fraud, of all things! We all know he is above the law and will eventually get away with everything, right?
We were also introduced to George Remus from Cincinnati, who wants to provide liquor for Johnny Torrio and Al Capone’s team. He was supposedly F. Scott Fitzgerald’s inspiration for Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby. I just wish he would stop talking about himself in third person!
Agent Nelson Van Alden is as crazy as they come. He and his wife are celebrating their 13th anniversary. Meanwhile, Lucy is very naked and very pregnant by Agent Van Alden and is being paid off to keep quiet.
Lots of drama coming up! What did you think of this episode? Share your thoughts below in the comment section. Be sure to tune in next week when we cover another great New York show!
