Downtown DC

Your tour begins at Union Station, a working train station and shopping center, seen in such films as Minority Report, Hannibal, Head of State, The Sentinel, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Next, make your way to our Nation’s Capitol, which was smashed by a tidal wave in Deep Impact, destroyed by aliens in Earth vs. the Flying Saucers and Mars Attacks!, circled by Michael Moore’s ice cream truck in Farenheit 9/11, and served as the animals’ gathering place in Evan Almighty.  In the center of it all is the renowned Reflection Pool, which is recognizable from films such as Deep Impact, The Sentinel, All the President’s Men, Thank You for Smoking, Forrest Gump ("Jenny!!!"), The Firm and JFK.

You will pass by the National Archives, as seen in All the President’s Men, Eraser, JFK, True Colors, also as where the Declaration of Independence is stored in National Treasure. Our tour bus will drive you past the Washington Monument, featured in almost 100 movies including The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Air Force One, Head of State, Independence Day, The Pelican Brief and Beavis and Butt-head Do America.

You will see the famous Lincoln Memorial featured in Wedding Crashers, Thank You for Smoking, Sentinel, In the Line of Fire, A Few Good Men, Along Came a Spider, The Contender, Forrest Gump, G.I. Jane, Independence Day, Live Wire, True Colors, The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Armageddon, Assassination, Beavis and Butthead, Dave, Deep Impact, The Distinguished Gentlemen, Election, The Firm, JFK, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Minority Report, Nixon and Howard Stern’s Private Parts.

Other well-known attractions that host scenes here in this section of D.C. include the Memorial Bridge, as seen in Wedding Crashers, Armageddon, Assassination, The Contender, Dave, The Distinguished Gentlemen, and The Pelican Brief, and the Kennedy Center, recognizable from All the Presidents Men, Deep Impact and True Lies.

M Street and Above - Walking Tour Portion

On Location Tours allows you to stretch your legs and get off of the bus for a guided walking tour of the Georgetown area - so be sure to bring your walking shoes (and your coat in colder weather)!.  On this section of the tour you will see Riggs Bank, one of the city’s most prestigious financial institutions, famous for its gold dome and seen in Transformers, The Pelican Brief Heartburn, All the President’s Men and The Exorcist III.

Washington DC TV and Movie Tour | Washington DC Tour | DC Sightseeing | DC Bus TourThe Third Edition restaurant and nightclub is right across the street.  This popular hotspot served as the exterior shot for St. Elmo’s Bar in St. Elmo’s Fire and also was featured Exorcist III when Father Dyer and Lt. Kinderman stopped in for a beerOther attractions include The Gap, located on Wisconsin Avenue and N Street, where--after being mysteriously accused of a ‘pre-crime’-- Detective John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is recognized by his new eyes as ‘Mr. Yakamoto’ in Minority Report.

As you walk by 34th and P Street N.W., you will see the apartment from The American President and the Jeffries Family’s house from Chances Are. A very famous church (attended by President Kennedy), the Holy Trinity, is found west on P street and is known from films such as the The Exorcist and The Exorcist III. You will also walk past The Tombs, the popular Georgetown watering hole that served as the inspiration for St. Elmo’s Bar in St. Elmo’s Fire.  The interior of this saloon and restaurant served as the interior bar scenes for the film.

Be prepared to be spooked as you pass by the The Exorcist House on 3600 Prospect Street NW, where all exterior shots for the movie were filmed.  You’ll even see the home (on 3618 Prospect Street NW) of the writer of The Exorcist novels, on which the film was based. Because we can’t get enough of the iconic horror film, the next stop on the tour is the famous "Exorcist Steps" on Prospect Street, which were padded with 1/2"-thick rubber to film the death of Father Damien Karras (Jason Miller) in the film.

Next up is Key Bridge, named after Francis Scott Key, who wrote “The Star Spangled Banner.”  You’ll recognize this bridge from Burn After Reading, Deep Impact, No Way Out, and True Lies.

Before you hop back on the bus, “crash” Jeremy Ryan’s (Vince Vaughn) apartment from Wedding Crashers and take a look at the shops at Georgetown Park, where the glass door entrance is seen in True Lies and Time Cop. On the second floor of the mall the movies Best Friends and True Lies were filmed.

Attractions around Dupont Circle

As the tour bus leaves Georgetown, you’ll be heading into Dupont Circle, a cosmopolitan neighborhood with some of Washington, DC's finest museums, historic homes and foreign embassies, and the heart of D.C.’s nightlife.  You may remember Borat making new friends in the neighborhood’s Gay Pride Parade in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.  Dupont was also the location for Dr . Kurtzweil’s bureau in The X Files Movie.  The Real World DC House is also located in Dupont Circle.

You will also pass by the Hay Adams Hotel, known for films such as Election, In the Line of Fire, No Way Out, National Lampoon’s Senior Trip and Wag the Dog. Located directly across from the White House is St. John’s Episcopal Church, featured in Election and No Way Out. Lafayette Park is a famous and beautiful seven-acre public park located across from the White House and is featured in several films such as Fahrenheit 9/11, The Sentinel, All the President’s Men, In the Line of Fire, Company Business, Dave, Election, National Lampoon’s Senior Trip, My Fellow Americans and The Pelican Brief.

What is a trip to DC without visiting the White House, the third most-filmed location in D.C., after the Capitol and the Washington Monument? Films featured at the White House include: The American President, The Sentinel, Independence Day, Wag the Dog, Dave, Pelican Brief, Armageddon, Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery, Clear and Present Danger and The Contender.

As you pass by 14th street you will see the Hotel Washington, as seen in The Godfather II, Contact, and Silkwood. The roof of this hotel is often used to capture establishing shots of the White House because of its ideal location. You will also pass by the Old Ebbitt Grill, featured in In the Line of Fire and the Willard Hotel, seen in The Kingdom, True Lies, Head of State, and 24.  As you are concluding our tour you will have the chance to see the Ford Theatre, where President Lincoln saw his final play before his assassination.

The Washington DC TV and Movie Sites tour is a great way to see the city and the monuments while revisiting the scenes from your favorite TV shows and movies!
